A woman was spotted in a surveillance video in California, throwing 7 puppies into a plastic bag.
The next hour, a passerby named John found the bag in the trash and retrieved it. If he did not find the bag so quickly, the puppies would have died in the heat.
“There is no excuse for dumping puppies,” Animal Services Cmdr. Chris Mayer said in a statement. “Especially in today’s age when we or other shelters would be willing to get these animals to foster parents or rescue partners. This was a shameful act.”
Authorities are now seeking help from the public to identify this woman. Animals Services officials, sheriff’s investigators, and the district attorney’s office are working together to get justice for these puppies.
The puppies, who are thought to be three-day-old Terrier mixes, were cared for by Animal Services veterinarians before they were handed over to MeoowzResQ, a non-profit that specializes in the feline rescue and fostering. The rescue is taking good care of the pups and bottle-feeding them as needed.
All seven puppies are expected to be okay.
