One day the Animal Aid team found a bird cage outside a door. There was not a bird inside, but a thin, frightened Pit Bull. The poor girl had been seriously neglected. She had a severe case of scabies, and her skin was covered with painful wounds.
The shelter team posted photos of the little dog on Facebook
Then the post got to Regina Vlasek, founder of the Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation. The woman was heartbroken. “It was just so pathetic.” Vlasek said. “She wouldn’t even hold her head up, she was just so sad.”
Vlasek couldn’t understand how anyone had the guts to put Pit Bull in the cage. “It’s like a parrot cage.” She said. Devastated with what had happened, Vlasek contacted the Animal Aid and took the little dog under her care.
The little dog, named Birdie, went to the vet for a complete checkup. She ended up having allergies to mites. She also had a staph infection, which the vet started to treat right away.
Birdie may have had many illnesses, but Vlasek describes her as perfect. “She’s just so grateful to be with people, and have attention and to be with other dogs. So she’s pretty perfect,” said the woman.
Now, Birdie lives with Amanda Trainer, her host family, while waiting for an eternal home. “She lives with me and my other three dogs. She also gets along with my 3-year-old nieces,” Trainer said.
“She loves chew toys and has a strong jaw.”, said Trainer. “If she’s not playing with my other Pit Bull, she’s lying by my side. She is what I like to call a ‘velcro dog’ who does not like to be away from her humans. She will be great pet for a family.”
Hopefully the beautiful girl will find a definitive and loving home soon. Share this story, if you are against the mistreatment and the abandonment of animals!
