Girl empties her piggy bank – the reason why left her grandmother in tears

When Jackie Oelfke found her five-year-old granddaughter emptying her piggy bank, she was shocked. The smart child was saving up for months now and wanted to use all her money. But when her granddaughter Sunshine explained the reason, her gramma started to cry and decided to help. Now, just a few months after the Sunshine project began, she has already recruited an army of great-hearted helpers from around the world.

“She said she was taking it to school for milk. I explained that I had already paid for her milk for the month, then she looked at me and said, ‘My friend’s mom doesn’t have milk money, and I do.'”

Jackie realized that her granddaughter had a wonderful soul when, instead of wanting to spend her money on herself, she wanted to help her classmates. Proudly,  the grandmother helped Sunshine take the money to the classroom and hand it over to the teacher. After that, she posted about the little girl’s noble mission on her Facebook page.

Child’s project touches hearts

In a few hours, Jackie’s publication became viral. She received support from people around the world who were touched by the child’s wonderful mission. In addition to moral support, people sent money to help the children in need.

Sunshine’s teacher Rita Hausher said that seeing parents refusing milk to their children was one of the hardest aspects of the job. But, thanks to the girl’s unselfish and intelligent idea, that would be a thing of the past. “I have always felt sad when I have had to tell a student, ‘no,’ when they ask if they can have milk. Thanks to Sunshine’s act of kindness for one student, it has grown so much that it now includes everyone, which makes my heart happy.”

So far, Sunshine’s GoFundMe page has raised enough so that her classmates don’t have to starve. In addition, the girl is happy that everyone can drink milk with her!

I can’t believe this 5-year-old girl has done so much with only some piggy bank money! Please share the wonderful mission so that more people can help the worthy cause.
