Olympic gold medalist uses his incredible speed to save a life

Winning the gold medal during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, it is fair to say that David Verburg is among the fastest sprinters on the planet. However, recently, Verburg resorted to his incredible off-piste speed.

While driving down a busy road in Florida, Verburg saw an animal in desperate need of help. It was a turtle, stranded on the street, at great risk of being crushed by the constant stream of passing vehicles.

“Actually, I almost hit it myself,” Verburg said.

Instead of letting the turtle get hit by someone else, Verburg knew he had to help. So he turned around, stopped, and got out of the car to get her before it was too late. He did not even wait to tie his shoes.

After saving her, Verburg continued until he found a safe place to release┬áthe turtle. “When I set her down, she poked her head out of her shell,” Verburg said. “It feels good knowing I could help an animal that needed it. I’ve always had a soft spot for animals.”

Fortunately, Verburg said the turtle did not appear to be injured. He saved her at the right time! Check out the incredible rescue in the video below:
