When Katie Whiddon and her boyfriend saw their 4-year-old baby walk for the first time, they couldn’t contain their tears. Normally, children start walking earlier… but for the boy who was born with no arms and no legs, this was a special and great moment!
Whiddon was 18 weeks pregnant when she went to the doctor to have an ultrasound. At that time, the woman received devastating news: her son Camden was not developing his legs nor his arms – he was diagnosed with a condition called Focomelia.
After the diagnosis, the mother of three feared that the child wasn’t not going to be able to do even the simplest tasks throughout life. “When I first discovered he would not have arms or legs, I thought he would be a vegetable… I didn’t know what to expect.”
Despite his fears, Camden turned out to be an extremely strong, intelligent and brave boy. “When he was about 2 months old, I laid him in my bed… and I saw from the corner of my eye that he was trying to reach the toys with the arms. I started to cry, I was so happy. He could do things.”
The most supportive person for Camden is Whiddon’s boyfriend, Cole Greene. It was he who encouraged the lovely boy to walk for the first time. “I’ll come to you!” Said the boy enthusiastically. “I’m walking!” This was a magical moment, which proved to everyone in the room that kid could be able to do anything he wanted, even without limbs.
“We started crying, we were so proud,” Whiddon said of the inspiring moment. “I didn’t know when that day would come, I didn’t think he was ready for it yet, and I was so shocked and happy. It was so exciting, and Ryleigh (the sister) was jumping there, being supportive.”
The incredible moment was filmed and posted on Facebook. Since then, the exciting scene has been shared thousands of times. Whiddon is confident that her boy will change the world for the better. There is no doubt that the boy is destined for something great. When you watch the video below, you’ll understand why!
This boy shows that, with strength and determination, we are able to overcome any obstacles. Share the inspirational story of Camden with your friends and family.
