Police officer arrests mother who stole food, but changes his mind when she sees her hungry child

We all know that we must respect the law, and fulfill our duties as citizens. However, when our family is in trouble, we do anything to help them… even if it means disrespecting the law. That’s exactly what happened to this mother who stole food.

The Hillsborough Police Department shared the story of this assault on its Facebook page. Since they published it, they received thousands of positive comments, and the post has been shared countless times. The situation happened in North Carolina on November 4, and it changed the life of Theresa West forever.

“Yesterday Senior Corporal Keith Bradshaw and Officer First Class Candace Spragins investigated a larceny from Food Lion. They located the offender at her residence, where she gave back the $36 worth of food that she stole for her and her child. This was not a crime out of greed but one seen as necessary by a mother trying to feed a child.

Although the officers had to criminally charge her with the theft, they took it upon themselves to go back to the store and buy $140 in groceries, bringing the groceries to the hungry family. Sometimes police work is not cut and dry. We are people first and cops second. More often than not, compassion for our community shows through.”

These wonderful officers, couldn’t remain indifferent to the mother in distress, and decided to offer her food. She will obviously have to answer for her actions and go to court, but thanks to Agent Bradshaw and Agent Spragins, the woman is already getting the help she needs from the state. Share to honor these two amazing professionals, who have placed compassion and humanity above all else!
