Marine adopted dog that he found in the middle of a war zone

Craig Grossi, a US Marine, was on a mission to Afghanistan when he found an abandoned dog in a small compound where his troop was.

Many people usually don’t care about dogs, as stray animals in Afghanistan are very common, but something about him said that he should approach the dog.

Grossi listened to his instinct and turned out to be fate. As he walked toward the dog, he began to wag his tail and was incredibly happy that someone was finally paying attention to him.

The poor puppy was hot, starving, and covered with insects.

The dog immediately liked Grossi and began to follow him everywhere. Grossi fell in love with the animal and knew he could not leave it there alone. So he stuck it in its base and did everything he could to take the dog home with him, even though he was in the middle of a war.

If Grossi had been caught, he could have had problems, but if he left the dog alone, he could have died.

Grossi explained that during their first week there, they were under constant attack, with everything from mortars to RPGs.

Of course, this was not the place for an innocent dog, and Grossi promised to get him safely out of there.

Grossi kept his promise and managed to take the dog to the United States with him!

He decided to call him Fred, and to this day the two are completely inseparable.

Grossi even wrote a book about their journey together called “Craig & Fred: A Marine, A Stray Dog, and How They Rescued Each Other
