Man finds his missing dog after 4 years without seeing him

In 2016, Michael Joy and his family were about to embark on a trip when their three dogs got loose. Two of them came back, but Sam, a labrador who was only 4-months-old at the time, disappeared.

Joy looked everywhere in her neighborhood in Georgia in the southeastern United States, checking local shelters. But the American who works as an army vet could not find his beloved dog anywhere, “I told my wife, ‘Hey, I’m going to find this dog“, he said in an interview with the local newspaper.

He never stopped and even four years later he was still searching through pages of shelters for lost dogs.

Time passed and the family eventually moved to another state due to Michael’s work, but he refused to believe that Sam was gone forever. Whenever he had time, he would travel back to Georgia, hoping that Sam would show up.

Then, on the morning of April 2, almost five years after Sam’s disappearance, Michael received an unexpected phone call from City Dogs Cleveland.

Since it was from a different number and with the area code of another state, he almost didn’t answer the call.

“Oh, cool, let me answer that and see what’s going on,” she said, ‘We have Sam.’ In the back of my mind, I was thinking, ‘That can’t be the same, Sam.‘ Because the area code was from a state far away from where he had originally lost him, it was hard for Michael to believe it was the same dog.

Sam was found by Cleveland police and taken for a medical examination. Looking for a microchip, this is how City Dogs found the owner of the lost dog.

The day he received the call, Michael made the eight-hour drive to Ohio and prayed that his dog would recognize him. After so many years, his appearance had changed, he now had a beard and long hair.

“When we get there and I’m waiting for them to take Sam out, you can see the anxiety on my face. I was like a kid at Christmas,” Joy said.

The emotional reunion was recorded and posted on the official Twitter account of the animal police office. Check it out below:

The vet was thrilled to see his lost puppy again, and although Sam seemed a bit confused by his father’s new look at first, the pup couldn’t stop jumping up and down and wagging his tail with excitement.

Now that Michael has been reunited with his best friend, he will never let him out of his sight again.
