The reality of stray dogs is usually marked by a chain of misfortunes, some more regrettable than others, but all leave physical and emotional wounds that only with the help of true animal lovers can they overcome.
This is the story of Mateo, a lovely puppy who was rescued from the streets of Chillán-Chile in a lamentable state of health.
Mateo is a white poodle.
His owners have left him with a serious hind leg injury, completely malnourished and without strength to face all that a street dog should tolerate.
Fortunately, he was seen in time by a woman who couldn’t leave him in that situation and decided to give him the protection he so badly needed.
The puppy had no mobility on his back paws.
Katherine Andrea was the woman who was willing to break the misfortune the puppy was suffering and change his life forever.
The paw lesions made him lose his mobility in them, so Mateo had to drag half his body to try to get to a certain place.
His stomach and thighs were covered with wounds.
Very dirty and wounded Mateo received all the attention he needed. His recovery process has been quite slow but satisfactory.
His tangle hair was cut, so he received a comforting bath, something so simple that it made the puppy look completely different.
There is still much to do, but Andrea doesn’t give up, she is convinced that Mateo is a warrior who has overcome many adversities.
The puppy does physiotherapy to help strengthen the muscles.
It’s just a matter of time, patience and a lot of love for Mateo to recharge himself with energy and reach his ideal weight.
This puppy has become Katherine’s faithful companion and spoiled family member.
“Mateo, thank God for crossing our path”, comments Katherine.
From the first day he was rescued to the moment, Mateo had several consultations with the vet, including a surgery to treat his leg injuries.
For now, it isn’t certain that he will walk again, but he is receiving therapies in his members to help him face this great battle.
The journey to Mateo is long, but he has the best company now.
Due to his condition, the vet suggested the use of a rear wheelchair so that he could walk with his front legs.
But Mateo is still very weak and lacking the strength to carry his own weight, it is hoped that this will be the most viable option in the future.
Mateo has a promising future, but first he needs to heal his physical and emotional wounds.
Meanwhile, he continues to show that he is a great warrior, next to his protective mother we are sure that soon he will improve completely.
Thank you, Katherine, for opening the doors of your home and your heart to welcome this vulnerable puppy.
Great love gestures like these should be an example and motivation to help so many puppies on the street who need us. Share the rescue in your networks and be encouraged to adopt.
