On a winter night, a man in Earlton, New York opened the front door and found something waiting for him. She was a bald, thin dog who was suffering from the cold!
The surprised man quickly brought the animal to his house and called the police. Police took the puppy to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society / SPCA. The hearts of rescue workers broke when they saw the scared face of the poor girl.
“It appeared that she had been dumped by the roadside and abandoned.” Wrote the Columbia-Greene Humane Society / SPCA on Facebook. “It was clear that she had been neglected and in dire need of medical attention.”
The vets examined the dog, which they called Penny. They found that she had a case of scabies that hadn’t been treated. Her skin was scaly, dry and infected. “She was in bad shape,” said Ron Perez. “She had some open lacerations on her face and neck, and was pretty much devoid of any hair. It was sad. It’s always sad to see them like this.”
However, Penny was a fighter and was determined to get well quickly!
With great care, love and dedication, Penny began to improve and her true personality began to shine. “She’s a real fighter,” Perez said. “Her stress levels are clearly much lower now, because she’s interacting with people and she has proper food and is sleeping correctly.”
The rescue group and local police investigated the case and found the perpetrator 24 hours later who was charged with animal cruelty. The man could face a fine up to $ 1,000 and some time in prison.
Many people showed an interest in adopting the dog, but a couple stood out… And after so much suffering, Penny was adopted on March 10, 2018. That’s great news!
After all she’s faced, Penny deserves to have a happy life alongside people who truly love her. Share this incredible story with your friends and family!
