When Hurricane Florence hit North Carolina, Mike Stura jumped on his truck and drove to there, hoping to rescue some animals. Mike is the founder of the Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue and it wasn’t long before he got on the scene: three loving puppies were begging for help!
“They were emaciated and abandoned and shivering, and I pulled up by the road with the truck,” Stura said. “I just stopped, and they came right up to me.”
However, the puppies turned out not to be their biggest challenge… Some cows were struggling to survive the floods at a nearby property.
Some cows had already reached a safe place and were out of danger. However, one of them was swimming in front of the flooded barn and was struggling to survive.
It was not easy to drag the animal ashore …
The rescuers and some locals worked together to get the cow out of the water.
After much effort, cow finally collapsed into the dry and secure trailer. Stura tried to talk to her, saying she would be all right.
Then, with the permission of the former owner, Stura took the rescued cow to his sanctuary in New Jersey.
Stura hopes the cow will bond with Babe, another cow Stura rescued from Hurricane Harvey last year.
“Babe is the same breed as her, and they both came from hurricanes,” he said. “If they bonded, I think it would be really cool.” Whatever happens, Stura is sure that the cow will be very happy in the sanctuary and he is very grateful to the people who helped in the rescue.
