Dog paralyzed after being shot dragged in the dirt for 3 weeks until rescued

A man was coming home from work near Vado / Mesquite, New Mexico when he saw a dog crawling along the avenue.

He immediately stopped and realized that the dog was totally paralyzed from the waist down.

Since the man was unable to keep the dog, now named Halo, Diane Avery, of Anthony, New Mexico, agreed to take her in.

Avery assumed that Halo had been hit by a car at some point, but when she took her to the vet, x-rays revealed that she had a pellet lodged in her back.

Somebody shot him and left him paralyzed to die.

In addition to being unable to walk, she was also very malnourished and dehydrated.

The three-month-old Husky/Lab mix had successful spinal surgery to dislodge the pellet, in the hopes that she will be able to walk again.

The surgeons said the bullet didn’t rupture the spinal cord, but it pressed it.

As she begins to heal, she will start physical therapy to help her regain her strength in her hind legs.

“Someone said to me that Halo was lucky to have us but we feel we are lucky to have her in our lives!” Avery wrote on Facebook. “What a beautiful spirit in the face of great difficulty. We can all learn from this little throw away puppy!”
