There is only one toy that Brutus, a Bulmastife who lives with his family in Northern California, refrained from tearing apart: the sacred fluffball. Fluffball is a yellow thing, which Brutus likes to carry in the mouth. “It’s the only toy that he won’t tear apart in five minutes,” said Bonnie Michalek.
Despite Brutus’ propensity to destroy toys, he is the most gentle dog ever.
Bonnie Michalek and her husband have had Brutus since they got him in 2016. “I call him my first baby.” Michalek said.
Michalek has to make the distinction of “first” as she recently gave birth: a beautiful son, named Kayden.
Even though Kayden is a new experience for the whole family, the Michaleks had no concern about the relationship between Brutus and the new baby. “He always loved kids,” Michalek said.
“Brutus knew I was pregnant before i did… He definitely sensed it before I knew,” said Michalek. “OOn the nights my husband was working Brutus refused to be in his crate.”
When Kayden was born, Brutus stayed with Bonnie’s parents. When her family came to pick him up, Bonnie was aware that Brutus would want some time alone with her before being introduced to the baby.
“I made sure to pay some attention to him,” Michalek said. “Brutus completely bypassed my husband to meet Kayden. He immediately wanted to give him kisses and snuggle up to him.”
From day one, Brutus hadn’t let Kayden out of his sight. Whenever he hears Kayden cry, the dog knows he has to help in some way. Then he began to bring the sacred fluffball (the toy) to the baby. “He grabs his favorite toy to bring it to Kayden to console him!” Michalek said.
The fluffball always makes Brutus feel good. So he figured it might work the same way for his younger brother.
Brutus is an incredible dog and the family is very grateful to have him around. Share this wonderful story with your friends and family!
