According to a revolting Save the Children report, about 30,000 girls get married a day. Unfortunately, child marriage is legal in many countries and, according to Unicef, more than 700 million women in the world married when they were just children. They are deprived of their childhood, their education, and their decisions. In addition, they’re exposed to premature pregnancies that can lead to death.
As this problem doesn’t occur in developed countries, it’s often neglected. But how would people react if it happened in broad daylight… in New York? To raise awareness about child marriage, and demonstrate that it’s not something we should close our eyes to, Coby Persin, a YouTube user, has decided to make a social experiment.
What we’re going to see now is not real, but it could be. There are thousands of such cases scattered around the world…
The Youtuber organized a fake marriage between a 12-year-old girl and a 65-year-old man. With that, Coby Persin wanted to see how people would react. The experiment was conducted in the middle of Times Square in New York, USA.
n the experiment, Coby pretended to be the photographer who took photos of the marriage between the 65-year-old man and the 12-year-old bride. The couple posed and held their hands. He smiled as she stared at the floor.
At first, people passed by and looked. But then several passers-by began to react!
People became very angry and faced the man. A woman asked, among other things, where the girl’s mother was and said she was very small.
Outros fizeram comentários como “isso é uma porcaria”, “não está certo”, “é ilegal” “você é um cara desagradável, doente”. Uma mulher até reagiu tentando tirar a garota do homem.
Of course, the people of New York didn’t accept in any way that a girl married an older man. No one should accept it!
In the video below, you can see all the powerful social experience. It’s something we should all see to reflect about this issue.
Every second a girl is forced to marry. We have to stop this now! Share to raise awareness about this problem. All girls should have the right to decide on their lives!
