When Gene Hubbard was first diagnosed with diabetes, doctors made it clear that his life would change. The man had to get used to monitoring his blood sugar levels, and administering his own insulin injections. In addition, he had to accept the fact that the disease could betray him one day. Unfortunately, diabetes stole Gene’s vision, but the blind elderly doesn’t let it interfere with their lives.
Although he hasn’t seen for more than 20 years, Gene continues to work full time, travel by public transport and live a healthy and independent lifestyle. To know what’s around him, Gene memorizes a series of maps, routes and schedules. But, due to a construction, Gene’s usual path changed. Fortunately, someone very special came to offer a helping hand…
Bus driver helps blind elderly
The sudden change of route left him completely disoriented and baffled! He said, “If I don’t have a regular locating point to start from, I may as well be in the middle of the ocean.” When the bus driver, a young man named Thaddaus Turner, realized that Gene was worried about this change, he decided to do something about it. Without thinking twice, Thaddaus stopped the bus, took the keys out of the ignition, and helped Gene get to his usual route.
With the help of Thaddaus, Gene managed to get home safe and sound! See the unselfish act of kindness of the bus driver in the video below.
We need more people like Thaddaus in the world, willing to help and put their lives on hold to help another person in need! We should all be more like this incredible young man! Share if you agree!
