Police academy training prepares future professionals for many terrible situations. However, no one was ready to see the inside of this pregnant woman’s home. Not even a cop with 20 years of service thought he would see something so terrible in his life.
The South Carolina police officer learned the hard way, along with his colleagues, that there are some things for which no training can prepare us for. Police were summoned to Savanah’s house Victoria Morgan, a mother who was eight months pregnant, after her 2-year-old son was found unconscious in his bedroom.
First, the officers went through a pile of garbage and feces to drive the child away, which itself was a horrible scenario. But this was just one of many revolting discoveries. They saw that the child had very clear signs of being physically abused!
The boy had to be transported to the hospital because the injuries were very bad. The child is improving, but there is still a long way to go to achieve recovery. In addition to being abused, the boy was surrounded by dead and dying animals at home. According to reports, “In bags and containers as well as freely open, there were about 90 animals, including cats, dogs, rodents, reptiles, pythons and tarantulas.”
When police searched the huge amount of garbage, police discovered two more children, aged between 1 and 2 years. They were removed from Morgan’s house and placed in the custody of the Social Services. Morgan initially said her son was unconscious because he choked with toys, but later changed her story and claimed to have dropped the child accidentally.
However, the series of bruises, new and old, suggested that he was often beaten. The cops who dealt with the case could not believe what they just saw. “I’ve never seen anything like it in my 20 years doing it,” said Lt. Scott Franklin.
Morgan is arrested and now awaits trial. Fortunately, someone denounced the monstrous mother, and made a big difference in the lives of these children and the animals that were still alive. Small acts of courage can be great changes for many people.
If you know someone experiencing abuse, report it… you can make a difference!
